You receive an error message when you create, save, or open a report in Project Portfolio Server 2007 after you install SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2!

On a server that provides the reporting functionality for Microsoft Office Project Portfolio Server 2007, you install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

When you create a report or save a report in Project Portfolio Server 2007, you receive the following error message:

An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'PPSExtension' that is not registered for this report server.

More Info: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=20476&EvtSrc=Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ErrorStrings&EvtID=rsDataExtensionNotFound&ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server%20Reporting%20Services&ProdVer=9.00.3042.00

When you open a report that is saved in Project Portfolio Server 2007, you receive the following error message:

An error has occurred during report processing.
More Info: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=20476&EvtSrc=Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ErrorStrings&EvtID=rsProcessingAborted&ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server%20Reporting%20Services&ProdVer=9.00.3042.00

This problem occurs because the SQL Server Setup program removed an Extension XML element from the Rsreportserver.config file. This Extension XML element is added by the Project Portfolio Server 2007 Setup program.

Hello friends.

Finally, I got some time to blog again. It’s great to feel good after 3 months of hard efforts to bring RAW EPM to live action. When we consider one of the biggest MSEPM Architecture of World, the challenge grows even bigger. That’s how my life has been tougher since last few months as a MSEPM SME to complete the Go-Live in a record time.

My Customer has several credentials to their belt. They are India's Largest & Biggest Player in their industry vertical. Their in-house motivation to transform As Is Project Management Functions to Enterprise Portfolio Management by implementing MSEPM had done justice to our spirit to deliver a set of qualitative deliverables.

The joy of architecting Microsoft EPM, configuring & customizing it to align with Organization Goals and then motivating the Customer to best utilize it, motivates me the most. And when you have an equal, hungry & spirited Customer to leverage this product to achieve Project/Program/Portfolio Governance Excellence, it only adds icing to the cake. Yes…the SME’s jobs gets even harder to match expectations sometimes! 

I can rate this assignment as one of my best among last few MSEPM implementations. As we stand on the verge of welcoming MSEPM2010, this could become my last act with MOPPS 2007. It is in fact a very robust PPM tool. Fingers crossed as I wonder how much of its features are included in the single Project Server 2010 environment.

Well, this is real time to take a break as last 8 months have been very tiring. Last but not the list, Thanks Karri, my friend, working in MSEPM with you in this engagement has been truly a wonderful experience!

Cheers...Happy Holidays! Read more on this article...
